Description : This building is strategically located at the Schuman roundabout since it faces the Berlaymont - the EU’s headquarters. The original building which, like the surrounding buildings, dates from the 60s, was thoroughly renovated by architect’s office Assar on behalf of Cibix, nowadays Befimmo. The project, completed in 2002, covers some 4,870 m² and is distinctive by the design of an entirely new, active double coated façade. The new glass façade perfectly mingles with the fronts of neighbouring buildings whilst the entrance has been given greater visibility with its new reception and lobby hall designed on 2 levels.
Technicalities : The building displays a concrete structure, covered by a dynamic double coated façade with clear double glazing giving onto the Schuman roundabout and a pierre de France façade with reflective double glazing window frames giving onto Rue Froissart. The substructure is made of bluestone. Office areas are completed with sound-proof insulated false ceilings of enamelled and perforated steel sheets which hide a complete air-conditioning system thanks to the « cool ceilings » technique and which integrate low light intensity luminaries suited for the use of screens. The floors are finished with false floors all over the place that integrate floor boxes. The sales areas facing the Schuman roundabout have been completed to accommodate a bank branch with self-service banking and back-offices upstairs. The sales area facing Rue Froissart has been completed to accommodate a stationer’s and bookseller’s shop.
